I Dream of COACH

Hello there everyone and a happy Monday to you all!

I hope your weekend was a nice and relaxing as mine was! The weather was wonderfully summer-y this weekend so we decided to spend Saturday afternoon in Gettysburg. I always love visiting and walking around to all of the interesting shops and souvenir stores; plus it’s not unusual to see someone dressed in period garb!

Anyway the reason for the trip was to initially buy my brother a shirt and tie for his senior photo, which he promptly threw a fit about. Who complains when someone buys them nice things?! My brother, that’s who. While all that was going down I decided to walk across the outlets to visit the COACH store. I like to pop in here to daydream for a bit because I know the only way I am going to get something is if I am desperately looking for a quick way to empty my bank account.

I dream of the Madison East/West tote in tan

Keep in mind I was never really a huge COACH fan. I was never a big bag person…always shoes for me! I was walking around and fell in love with what I was seeing. The colors were great and I was pretty much imagining each piece with a different outfit–this is the point you know I need to leave the store. Unfortunately sunglasses were standing between me and the exit. As you could probably guess, there is a pair that I absolutely fell in love with and that looked great on me! But you know…budget. #college!

And I dream of the Lindsay sunglasses which looked lovely on me!

I may have left empty handed, but technology exists and I have therefore continued the dreaming via coach.com.

I Don’t Know When I Became My Bro’s PR Girl…

Just dropping in quick to make a little public announcement. My younger brother has been playing guitar for about 7 or so years and has career goals in the music industry. He has just begun to put himself out there on social media and has actually created himself a little blog! If you have any interest in music (rock/metal if we want specifics!) then head on over here, follow him and check out his material…it’s not all that bad! Haha!

What is your favorite genre of music? Do you play an instrument?

Book Club: The Paris Wife

Image: here

I decided to pick up “The Paris Wife” by Paula McClain las week because I had heard before such amazing things about it–and plus my mother already had a copy so I did not have to go out and buy it!

The story follows the relationship between Ernest Hemingway and his first wife (he had four!) Hadley. They were together in the early part of his career and she supported his writing in Paris of the 1920s. The story is in fact told from Hadley’s point of view.

This novel is historical fiction, however, McClain made it her mission to make it as close to real as possible by studying letters of correspondents between Ernest and Hadley and paid attention to how he described her in his very last work, a memoir titled “A Moveable Feast.”

I will come right out and say that I absolutely love this book! In fact, I do plan on purchasing my own copy because I am sure that I will want to read it again. Paula McClain’s writing here is descriptive, emotional and just great! I found myself completely invested in Hadley and Ernest’s relationship and became heartbroken with Hadley as it began to fall apart. I only ever put this book down if I absolutely had to do so.

Aside from the relationship I was also intrigued by the setting; I am fascinated by the ‘20s, the Jazz Age, Paris, and the “Lost Generation” including Gertrude Stein and F. Scott Fitzgerald who make appearances in this book. It was like getting a glimpse of life in 1920s Paris and watching Hemingway create the pieces that have become so well-known today.

I would definitely recommend this to you if you have not read it yet and would love to hear your thoughts if you have!

Will you read “The Paris Wife?” If you already have, what do you think of it?

Selfish Summer

Image: here

Before we left Pittsburgh for the summer, my roommate and I promised each other that we would spend the summer with only one person on our minds: ourselves, respectively. Much of our year was spent worrying about guys and friend drama and by the end that’s all we were concerned about. That’s why we decided to declare this the “Selfish Summer.”

Honestly, I think we all could use a little bit of this right? This summer we are focusing on ourselves; taking the time out to look back and see how we have grown and in what aspects we need to continue to grow. We have committed ourselves to being healthy and treating our bodies better, taking up new hobbies that we have wanted to and basically doing everything that we couldn’t because our minds were somewhere else. We even update each other about how the summer is going and what we have done (I’ve been painting and she’s learning to play guitar!)

I invite you to join us in being a little selfish this summer!

What could you do this summer to make it a little bit more about you?

Off To Paris!

Image: here

Haha oh I really wish I was! Unfortunately, the only way I am getting to Paris anytime soon is via daydreaming. Luckily I have stumbled onto some bloggers who aid in keeping that an active daydream with their wonderful posts filled with gorgeous photos. Here are just a few of the Paris blogs that I enjoy browsing through:

Paris in Four Months – I have been following Carin and her blog for about a year now. Her photographs are always gorgeous. It’s a treat to go her site and see beautiful buildings, restaurants and food. She also recently collaborated with SS Print Shop for a collection of Paris prints and basically I want all of them!

My Beautiful Paris –  I’m not on the site so much as I am following the gorgeous photos coming through on Norma Thiessen’s Instagram @mybeautifulpari. I get a seriously case of wanderlust off of those pictures alone!

The Paris Apartment – This is another one that I have been following for awhile. It has kind of turned into a lifestyle blog (which is totally wonderful!) but once in awhile some little French tidbits will make their way in.

Anna With Love – Paris Mondays is a feature here that I never miss! I love scrolling through amazing photographs of this city!

Get a Hobby!

Recently, in a crusade to combat boredom, I have taken up painting with watercolors. After spending the entire first month of my summer break alternating between the bed and the couch, Netflix and television, I decided that maybe my time off work should be taken up by something a little more productive yet still relaxing. Enter the idea painting. I picked up a cheap palette of colors from Michael’s and took out the un-used pad of paper that had been gathering dust on my bookshelf for the past couple of years and set to work.

The goal of all of this at this point, not only to give myself something to do, is also to create a few things that I could possibly frame and use to decorate my room in our apartment this school year! I am thinking a gallery wall could look quite nice and make the walls feel a lot less empty.

Summer Fitness

Image: here

Every summer it seems, I get into a fitness kick (at least the past few summers I have!) I am not a gym goer though…you could not pay me to go to the gym! I like to run and I also like to find workout routines to do in my home. Since summer is so nice–at least in the mornings and evenings–I like to be outside as much as possible. I run every other day, but the days that I do not run I still like to take a walk around the neighborhood which is a pretty solid workout itself.

Recently I have also gotten in to doing some of the workouts on the Tone It Up website. I found these girls through LaurenConrad.com and love their videos! My favorite workout is a total body workout from their 2014 bikini series. You can find that particular video and break down of the moves here. So far everything has been great and can already tell some changes in the winter waistline that I had developed! Haha!

Summer Reading List

tumblr_mj400vpNu41rjucqzo1_500

Hey there!

I know I have been a bit quiet this past week; I decided to take a little break from tech while I was adjusting to my work schedule. It was very nice to avoid staring a screen for hours after work. I actually spent sometime outside, jogging or walking and even spent one fantastic, sunny afternoon on the deck experimenting with my water colors! One thing that I have also been cracking down on is reading…I need to do more of it. I have no time during the school due to having to trade in novels for textbooks for months and months. This summer I have a list of books that I would like to read before moving in for fall semester.

“Weekend in Paris” by Robin Sisman
“The Beautiful and Damned” by F. Scott Fitzgerald
“Summer of My German Soldier” by Bette Greene
“Island Beneath the Sea” by Isabel Allende
“Coco Chanel” by Lisa Chaney
“Sense and Sensibility” by Jane Austen
“The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald (this one is always on my reading list! <3)

See…I have already crossed off a couple! I’m on a roll!
